Fix display problems that may be tied to one or more variations.
If one of the webpages that you're running an optimization on isn't loading correctly or has some visual issues, you can use this guide to determine if a variation is causing it and, if so, which one.
Pro tip
Variation conflicts aren’t common — but when they do happen, they’re usually tied to hand-coded variations.
Verify that the base page loads correctly
Suppress all variations to view the base page without any changes from Optimize.
- If the issue persists, then variations are not related to the issue
- If the issue goes away, then isolate the faulty variation(s)
Troubleshoot faulty variations
Variation issues can come from a single faulty variation or from conflicts between variations across different optimizations. You can use the preview module to isolate and identify the variation or combination that’s causing problems.
Isolate the variation(s)
If only one optimization runs on the page, open the preview module and toggle through its variations to see which one causes the issue. If multiple optimizations run on the same page, add variations from each optimization into the preview to check how they behave together. Test individual variations first, then try combinations until the issue appears — that’s your conflict.
Pause and fix the faulty variation(s)
Once you identify the problematic variation or combination, pause the affected variation(s). Then update the variation in the visual editor or code editor to resolve the issue. After fixing, preview again to confirm everything works as expected.
Pro tip
If you're troubleshooting a hand-coded variation, look for syntax issues or runtime errors that could break the page.
