Shopify dynamic product bundles playbook

Updated

Promote complementary products together to increase cart size and ROI.

This Shopify-specific playbook lets you showcase dynamic product bundles on your product detail pages (PDPs). Bundles can help convert more buyers, promote less popular inventory, and encourage customers to purchase multiple related items in one go. The recommendations are powered by Shopify’s native logic through the Search & Discovery app.

Good to know

This playbook creates an AI Optimize optimization and relies on Shopify’s complementary product system.

How it works

You’ll first set up bundle rules in Shopify, which define which products are recommended as part of the bundle. Once configured, this playbook surfaces those bundles automatically on your chosen PDPs. The playbook layout determines how many products are shown — up to three complementary items per bundle.

Bundles are ideal for:

  • Promoting accessories and related items alongside a core product
  • Encouraging multiple product purchases to increase average order value (AOV)
  • Boosting ROI on slower-moving products by bundling them with bestsellers

How to set up bundle rules

If you haven't already, install the Search & Discovery app. Then access your Shopify Admin interface.

  1. Go to Apps > Search & Discovery
  2. Click Product recommendations
  3. Select the base product for the bundle
  4. Add products to the Complementary products list — up to three available products can be shown
  5. Click Save

How to run this playbook

Open your Optimize site in Webflow, then:

  1. Click Optimizations in the Navigation panel
  2. Click New optimization at the top
  3. Go to Explore playbooks and select Offer Dynamic Product Bundles
  4. Select a page definition — e.g., a product detail page (PDP)
    • You can choose "All Products" to run the playbook anywhere bundle rules are set
  5. Click Create Playbook Optimization
  6. Select the page element you want to use as the anchor element

How to apply an audience (optional)

This playbook targets all visitors (i.e., everyone) by default. You can apply an audience to limit who can see recommendations.

How to pause No Change (optional)

A No Change variation is automatically included when the playbook is created — it shows the base page without the bundle as a control. Since this playbook is meant to boost conversions, you may want to pause No Change so all visitors see the bundle.

Preview and launch

Before launching, preview each variation to make sure everything looks and behaves as expected. Once you're ready, you can launch individual variations or all draft variations at once.
