Track clicks on buttons, links, and other interactive elements

A click goal tracks when visitors click one or more page elements — like a button or link. For example, you could track two “Subscribe” buttons on the homepage, or a “Contact us” link in the navbar. These goals help you measure engagement and understand how visitors interact with key elements on your site.

How click targets work

Optimize tracks element clicks with selectors, like an element’s ID (#subscribe-button), class (.cta-button), or visible text. In most cases you can just click a page element using the webpage preview to set its selector. For more complex scenarios — like nested elements or repeated components — you have the option to manually enter a selector value.

Page elements can have different selectors on desktop, tablet, or mobile due to layout shifts, responsive styling, or the use of alternate elements. Use the Device dropdown (e.g., Desktop) to spot check the other layouts. If the element is not already selected in the alternate layout, simply select it to add it to your goal.
