Use the goal log to confirm whether your goals are firing on the page as expected.
The goal log provides a live stream of goal activity on the page, including which goals have fired and the details surrounding each event. This is useful for validating that your Optimize goals are working as intended during a preview. If a goal requires some action from the visitor after the page loads, you can preform that action while checking the log to confirm that the goal is successfully triggered and recorded.
Access the goal log
To access the goal log, you’ll first need to open the preview module for a specific variation.
Open your Optimize site in Webflow, then:
- Click Optimizations in the Navigation panel
- Select the optimization
- Hover over a variation and click the Preview icon
- Click View now to launch the preview module
- Click Goal Log at the top
Review the goal log
By default, the goal log only shows events that have fired.
- If no view events fire when the page loads, the log will be empty
- When a goal action is triggered (e.g., clicking a button), the log briefly flashes green and adds a new entry
- Click the Expand icon next to an entry to view more details
Toggle the Hide campaign goals that have not been fired option to off to show all goal events, including those that haven't fired. Goal events associated with the page that haven’t fired will display “0 events” to the right.
Persist goal events between pages
Goal events will persist as you navigate between pages — as long as you did not open the preview module in Incognito mode.
- Opening the preview module as outlined above generates a temporary cookie that expires after 10 minutes
- You can extend this timer at any time by clicking Extend preview duration in the preview module
- If the cookie is still active, the goal log remains populated as you browse from one page to another
If you do not see a countdown timer in the Variation Status section of the module, you’re not using a temporary cookie — and goal events won’t persist. To enable a temporary cookie, restart your preview session.
How to clear the goal log
You can manually clear the log at any time to start fresh:
- Click Goal Log at the top of the preview module
- Click Clear Log
