Control what happens when a visitor matches multiple audiences in Personalize optimizations.
In Personalize optimizations, each variation is assigned an audience. If the audiences for an optimization are not mutually exclusive, some visitors may qualify for more than one audience. To control which variation these visitors see, set the variation order. Visitors who match multiple audiences will see the highest priority variation.
How audience priority works
If a visitor matches more than one audience, the highest priority variation that the visitor matched to will be shown to the visitor. Priority is based on the variation order — from top to bottom. For example:
| Order | Variation Name | Audience |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Variation A | State: New York |
| 2 | Variation B | Device type: Mobile |
A visitor in New York on a mobile device sees Variation A, but a visitor in California on a mobile device sees Variation B.
